DURING the week, Joe Duffy’s radio programme highlighted Justin O’Brien’s biographical sketch of Charles Haughey in the new Encyclopedia of Ireland.

This suggested that Mr Haughey and Neil Blaney sought “to foment insurrection” in Belfast in 1969-1970 “hoping thereby to destabilise Lynch’s government.”

It certainly is a bold claim.
