A COUPLE of years ago the Independent MEP Dana Rosemary Scallon was thrown out of the European People's Party grouping in the European Parliament.

SIPTU should stop sniffing for sin and recognise some political virtues

Dana had been admitted to the grouping after the 1999 election, but by 2002 they'd had enough of her and she was politely asked to leave.

Fine Gael were also members of the European People's Party grouping. The veteran Fine Gael Connacht-Ulster MEP Joe McCartin was not unhappy to see the back of Dana. He told a radio interviewer that his experience of Dana at group meetings was that she seemed to spend all her time "sniffing for sin".
