PROBABLY puzzled at not having won the Employer of the Year Award, despite his incentive offer of a car to staff, Ivor Callely understandably came to believe his entire career was enveloped in conspiracy.

Although left under no illusion as to what Taoiseach Bertie Ahern intended to do, the beleaguered Junior Minister of State for Transport minister apparently told RTÉ’s Pat Kenny yesterday morning that he had asked the cabinet to investigate a “false, mischievous and sinister campaign” against him.

Wisely, he had a subsequent change of mind and decided to resign.
