Nursing homes issue lies in the shade while politicians holiday

Remember, the RTÉ's Prime Time programme exposed a litany of horror in the home, including elderly people being abused, abandoned and exploited and the reason, according to Bertie Ahern, was that the Health Service Executive (HSE) was "duped".

It wasn't just duped; it showed an incredible degree of naivete, gullibility and a laissez faire attitude to the patients' well-being. It would appear, from what the Taoiseach said, that the inspectorate had been aware of at least some of the appalling things happening there.
