Episode Five - The Convict Burial Ground

In this episode we see how burial grounds on Spike island have revealed a truly harsh period in Irish history.

The convict burial ground is depicted on an 1879 map as being to the south west of the fort and in this segment we hear how the team is excavating here to try and establish the extent of over 100 convict burials.

Having been out of bounds for over 200 years because of its status as a military base Spike Island is now, at last, beginning to yield up its awful secrets.
