Vacant homes tax raises €2.3m from almost 4,000 people in its first year

Revenue have written to approximately 25,000 single property owners and 728 multi-property owners calling on them to check their eligibility for the vacancy tax

The State received just €2.3m from the Vacant Homes Tax (VHT) last year, as figures show that less than 4,000 individuals paid the levy.

Figures published by the Department of Finance in November detail that there were a total of 3,942 returns submitted to Revenue that were found to be eligible, while 2,713 property owners set out that they were exempt from the tax.
