Public Expenditure Minister Paschal Donohoe has talked down the prospect of him becoming the next managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Reports over the weekend suggested that Mr Donohoe was holding preliminary conversations over the matter and would have a strong candidacy given the respect he has in Europe and a close relationship with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.
