Parties to Good Friday Agreement ‘need to live up to principles’ of John Hume

Respect for difference, diversity and rule of law were close to John Hume's heart

During his visit to Strasbourg, Taoiseach Micheal Martin was welcomed by the president and judge Róbert Ragnar Spanó alongside vice president and judge in respect of Ireland, Siofra O'Leary. 

There are lessons to be learned from the life of John Hume which can be used in today's political climate, his son says.

John Hume Jr was speaking to the  Irish Examiner at the unveiling of a bust of the former SDLP leader at the European Parliament building in Strasbourg.
