The Government's mandatory hotel quarantine plans are "a day late and a dollar short", with 75,000 people already having arrived in the country since Christmas, the opposition has told the Dáil.

The measure passed by 103 votes to 10 in the first full vote of the Dáil term, moving to the Seanad before it is approved by the president. A Labour motion to extend quarantine to all countries was defeated.
