Friends of young man killed in Limerick car crash to hold vigil in his memory

The friends of a young man who died following a crash in Adare, Co Limerick on Sunday morning have organised a vigil in his memory.

He has been named as Nathan Browne who was in his early 20s.

Mr Brown lived in Glin, Co Limerick, and worked as mechanic. It is understood he moved to the town several years ago to be close to his grandparents, John and Betty.

A balloon release in his memory is set to take place tomorrow night.

“Following the very sad news of the passing of Nathan Browne, (John & Betty Browne's grandson) Nathan’s friends have organised a balloon release in his memory at 8pm tomorrow night (Tuesday) at Glin Pier.

“Anyone who would like to join them is very welcome to come along as they remember Nathan and show their love and support for his family at this incredibly difficult time,” announced a post on a local community page.

Friends of Nathan have paid tribute to him on social media, one of them writing: "Wish it was all a bad dream."

Another friend wrote: "Rest easy Nathan. Absolute gentleman".

The single-vehicle fatal road collision occurred on the N21 at Cummeen, Adare, at approximately 2.40am on Sunday.

Mr Browne, who was driving the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene after the vehicle struck a tree. His body was removed to University Hospital Limerick for an autopsy. No funeral details have been announced yet.

Two other young men who were passengers in the car were taken to University Hospital Limerick. One of them, aged in his 20s, remains in a critical condition.

The second passenger, in his late teens, received treatment for “non-life threatening injuries”, according to a Garda spokesperson.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

“Road users who were travelling on the N21 at Cummeen, Adare, Limerick in the early hours of this Sunday morning, September 20, between 2.15am and 2.45am, and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make it available to investigating gardaí.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Henry Street garda station on 061 212400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station,” said a garda spokesperson.
