Man, 30s, arrested in Cork after €1.6m cannabis seizure

A man in his 30s has been arrested in Cork following the seizure of over €1.6m worth of cannabis.

As part of an intelligence-led operation involving the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit, and Revenue Customs Service, approximately 83.5kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of €1,670,000, was seized by Revenue customs officers on Monday.

One male was arrested and is being detained at a Garda station in Co Cork under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said the seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

"Investigations are ongoing," the spokesperson added.
