A teenager was injured following an attack involving a slash hook in Limerick this weekend.

The alleged assault occurred in the Ballinacurra Weston area of Limerick city, at approximately 1.30pm on Sunday.

It is understood that the teen and his father were both injured in the incident, which involved a reported slash hook.

GardaĂ­ responded to the incident, but it is understood all parties had left the scene upon their arrival.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed they received a report of the alleged assault, which occurred in the Hyde Road area.

"A male youth sustained injuries during the incident.

"Investigations are ongoing," added the spokesperson.
