Man charged following fatal assault of Teddy Murnane in Tipperary
Gardaí investigating the homicide of Mr Murnane arrested a man, aged in his 30s, on Tuesday.
A man has been charged in connection with the death of Timothy ‘Teddy’ Murnane following an assault outside his home in Tipperary town.
The incident happened in Mr Murnane’s back garden at St Michael’s Avenue on September 12, 2025.
His wife found him next to the garage at their home at around 9.35pm.
Emergency services were alerted, and paramedics rushed him to University Hospital Limerick, where he later died.
Gardaí investigating Mr Murnane’s homicide arrested a man in his 30s on Tuesday.
Gardaí have since charged the man, who is due to appear before Thurles District Court this morning.
Mr Murnane was convicted of two sexual offences last year.
He pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court in October 2024 to two counts of indecent assault against one victim. The offences are understood to have been historic.
The court imposed concurrent 20-month prison sentences but suspended them on condition that he keep the peace and show good behaviour for 20 months.
Mr Murnane was also subject to the conditions of Part 2 of the Sex Offenders Act 2001.
Gardaí confirmed there was a “public record in terms of a conviction”, but said there was no "other formal complaint or investigation" made against him.
However, garda sources indicated they were aware of "intel" concerning Mr Murnane.
