A fundraiser has been set up for two grandparents who rescued their baby granddaughter from a house fire in Co Limerick.

The incident occurred on the morning of January 9 in the Ballysimon area. As a blaze broke out, Margaret and Noel Bolster did not hesitate and rushed to save their four-month-old granddaughter.

They all escaped without serious injuries, but their house was left destroyed. To help the heroic pair rebuild their home, their daughters, Harriet and Nichola, have set up a fundraiser.

“With no thought for their own safety, they rushed to save their four-month-old granddaughter. Luckily, all three escaped without serious injury and have recovered well. Unfortunately, the house was completely destroyed,” they explained.

“Their house was not just a house, it was a warm, welcoming home, where the door was always open to everyone. Many happy memories were made over the years.

To create this home, that they were so proud of, they worked hard over countless years and invested all their time, money and love.

As Margaret and Noel are both in their 70s, their daughters explained that they cannot “carry this financial burden alone”.

“We would be so grateful to anyone who can contribute and help us to rebuild their home,” they added.

When the fire broke out, Limerick Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene with three appliances from the city and one from Cappamore. Upon their arrival, the grandparents had rescued their granddaughter from the burning building.
