A man in his 80s who was injured in a collision earlier this month has died, gardaà in Co Clare have said.Â
The man, a pedestrian, was injured following a crash involving a car in the Abbey Street area of Ennis on December 8 at around 1pm.
He was taken to hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, but was later pronounced dead on December 22.Â
Gardaà said the coroner was notified, and an autopsy was carried out. The results of the autopsy are not being made public.Â
Gardaà are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Abbey Street area between 12.45pm and 1.15pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaÃ.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Ennis Garda Station on 065 6848100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
"Investigations are ongoing," a garda spokesperson said.Â
Earlier today, it was announced that a woman in her 80s has died following a five-car crash that occurred in Co Meath on Friday.Â
The crash follows an increase in the number of road fatalities in 2025. According to Garda statistics, 186 people have died on Irish roads this year, 19 more than this time last year.
It comes as senior gardaà said they are "very worried" at the surge in arrests of the number of people who are driving under the influence of both drugs and alcohol, and that "people are not listening" to the Christmas road safety campaign.
