Man, 70s, dies in house fire in Tipperary
A man in his 70s has died in a house fire in Tipperary.
Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the fire at a residence in the Carrigeen housing estate in Clonmel at around 6pm on Sunday evening.
Fire units based in Clonmel and Cahir attended the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control around two hours later.
The body of a man, aged in his 70s, was then discovered inside.
The man's body has since been removed to University Hospital Waterford (UHW) where an autopsy will take place in due course.
A garda spokesperson told the that the scene remains preserved pending a technical examination.
The blaze was the second fatal house fire reported in Munster over the weekend.
A man in his 60s died in a house fire in Cork city in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The blaze occurred at a property on Noonan's Road on the south side of the city at around 3am
Units of the Cork Fire Brigade and gardaí were at the scene within minutes.
The man was found in an upstairs bedroom at the house and after receiving medical treatment at the scene. He was subsequently brought to Cork University Hospital (CUH) where he died a short time later.
Investigations into both fires are ongoing.
