The blaze occurred at a property on Noonan's Road on the south side of the city at around 3am today.

A man in his sixties has died in a house fire in Cork city.

The blaze occurred at a property on Noonan's Road on the south side of the city at around 3am today.

Units of the Cork Fire Brigade and gardaí were at the scene within minutes.

Members of the fire brigade had to use breathing apparatus in order to enter the house.

A man was found unresponsive in an upstairs bedroom of the house. 

He received treatment from paramedics at the scene before being transferred to Cork University Hospital (CUH).

He was subsequently pronounced dead in the hospital.

The Office of the State Pathologist has been contacted. A post-mortem examination is due to take place.

A forensic examination of the property will be carried out to determine the cause of the blaze.

However, the initial indications are that the fire was accidental in nature. A file will be prepared for the Coroner.
