Man, 50s, dead after motorcycle collides with car in Limerick

The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene and has since been taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick.

A man in his 50s has died after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a car in Limerick

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a the incident on the R519 at Ballykevin, near Kilmeedy.

Emergency services responded to reports of the collision, which occurred at approximately 4:00pm.

The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene and has since been taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick.

The driver of the car, an adult female, was assessed at the scene and did not require immediate hospital treatment.

The road at the scene is currently closed to traffic and is being preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the local Coroner has been notifed. 

Diversions are in place on the R519 between the R520 at Ballykevin and Kilmeedy Village.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was travelling in the area at the time of the collision to contact them.

A spokesperson said: "Road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) from that section of road during the relevant period are also asked to make it available to investigating Gardaí.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Newcastlewest Garda Station on (069) 20650, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
