A man in his 20s has been arrested after gardaí seized 30kg of cannabis at Shannon Airport on Wednesday.

The drugs, with an estimated street value of €600,000, were found in several black packages hidden inside a suitcase.

The man, aged in his 20s, is currently being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda station in the Clare–Tipperary Division.

The seized drugs have been sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Examiner that investigations are ongoing.
