The unsettled weather is set to continue this week, with Met Éireann issuing a status yellow rain warning for seven counties.

Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, and Wicklow will see "spells of heavy rain" on Tuesday, with the warning in place from midnight until 6pm tomorrow.

The forecaster is warning of localised flooding, difficult travel conditions, and poor visibility in the seven counties.

More generally, the weather for the week ahead is "unsettled" but "relatively mild" for this time of year.

Monday will start "mostly cloudy and misty", but bright or sunny spells are expected to develop. Cloud will increase this evening, with temperatures hitting highs of 9C to 12C.

Monday night will "start off mainly dry" but "persistent or heavy rain" will develop in the southwest and spread northwards to all areas overnight with "spot flooding in places".

Temperatures may drop as low as 1C, with it being "coldest in Ulster."

Tuesday will be "wet with spells of persistent or heavy rain in many areas". Rain will gradually clear to the north through the late afternoon and evening with a few showers following. Patches of mist or fog will develop overnight.

The mist and fog will clear on Wednesday morning, and bright or sunny spells are expected to develop. In the afternoon, however, the rain will return. It will spread northwards to all areas through the evening and early night.

Showers will be "heavy at times" and will continue overnight, but will become lighter.

Thursday will be "mostly cloudy" with further outbreaks of rain or drizzle. Temperatures of 8C to 13C are expected with moderate to fresh northeasterly winds.

On Friday, rain will spread northwards over much of the country again, though much of Ulster will "stay mainly dry."

Looking ahead to next weekend, there will be "further spells of rain or showers" with daytime temperatures ranging from about 8C to 11C with moderate easterly winds.
