A yellow warning for rain has been issued for Cork, Waterford, and four other counties as Met Éireann says "persistent rain" turning heavy at times is expected.
The warning will come into effect at midnight on Tuesday and stay in place until noon.
The national forecaster said Cork, Waterford, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, and Wicklow could see localised flooding, difficult travelling conditions, as well as poor visibility.
Heavy outbreaks of rain continue across Munster and south Leinster on Monday night as temperatures are set to drop as low as 9C. It should remain dry with some clear spells and isolated showers elsewhere.
Tuesday will see more persistent, heavy rain with mist and fog in the south and east, while it stays drier elsewhere with scattered showers and some bright spells.
The rest of the week will then remain unsettled, with mild and frost-free conditions as well as frequent spells of rain and blustery weather.
More rain is expected Tuesday night, before it turns cloudier overnight. Similar weather will continue into Wednesday, with heavy rain spells expected in the west. However, it should ease off in the evening.
Wednesday night should remain largely cloudy overnight with some light rain and drizzle.
Thursday should see a drier and brighter start with some sunny spells and drizzle. However, a spell of rain will start spreading in through the day from the South Atlantic.
