Two people have been arrested after a scissor lift was stolen and driven through Cork city centre on Sunday evening.

Videos on social media show four young men on top of the lift, travelling along Oliver Plunkett St and Patrick St.

Members of the public who encountered the vehicle alerted gardaí, who later stopped the lift on the South Gate Bridge near Barrack St.

No injuries were reported.

A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Examiner that gardaí responded to "an unauthorised taking of a utility vehicle at St Patrick’s Quay" at approximately 8.30pm on Sunday.

"The vehicle was located on South Gate Bridge, Cork City and two men were arrested and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in Cork City.

"Investigations are ongoing," the spokesperson said.
