A man stabbed multiple times on a residential road in Cork City on Monday night remains in hospital being treated for his injuries.

The victim, who is in his 40s, had been admitted to hospital in a critical condition following the alleged assault, but it is understood his condition had stabilised somewhat by Tuesday evening.

No suspects have been arrested at this point and no weapon used in the attack has yet been found, it is understood.

Emergency services attended the scene of the incident on Quaker Rd, a residential street on the southside of the city at around 10pm on Monday night.

The victim was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The scene was preserved for technical examination and the road was closed with local diversions in place.

Monday night’s attack followed another suspected stabbing on Patrick Street in the city centre earlier that day.

Armed gardaí rushed to the scene of this first alleged attack on Monday and two men were brought to hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Witnesses told the Irish Examiner that a fight broke out between two men near a bakery and cafe on Patrick’s Street at noon.
