Gardaí have arrested a man in his 20s as part of a Limerick investigation that also uncovered a pipe bomb, drugs, and cash.

The man was detained in connection with the unlawful discharge of a firearm on September 3 on Childers Road.

He was held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939, at a Limerick garda station and later released pending a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

As part of ongoing investigations into the activities of an organised criminal group in Limerick, members of the Crime Unit, supported by specialist units and other agencies, carried out a planned operation in the Childers Road area on Tuesday.

During the searches of several residential properties and adjoining lands in the New Crescent area, gardaí discovered an improvised explosive device (IED), which the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team made safe.

A number of items were also seized, including €5,550 in cash, cocaine, crack cocaine, and a mobile phone.

Investigations are ongoing.
