Two dead following separate crashes in Munster

The M8 motorway between junction 11 and junction 12 northbound is currently closed pending a technical examination by Garda forensic collision investigators.

Two men have died following two separate crashes in Munster.

A man died after being hit by a car in Cork on Saturday.

The incident occurred between junction 11 and junction 12 northbound on the M8 motorway at Carrigane, Mitchelstown, at around 9.15pm.

A pedestrian, a man aged in his 40s, was fatally injured as a result.

His body has since been removed to the mortuary in Cork University Hospital where an autopsy will be carried out.

The driver of the car, a man aged in his 20s, was uninjured.

Diversions are in place.

Gardaí are now appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area at the time of the collision to make this footage available to gardaí.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Fermoy Garda Station on (025) 82 100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station."

In a separate incident, a motorcyclist aged in his 70s, has died following a collision with a van in Co Tipperary.

The crash occurred on the N24 in Cahir at around 11:05am on Sunday.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

The road remains closed to facilitate a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are now appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: "Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 10.45am and 11.15am this morning, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Cahir Garda Station on (052) 7445630, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."

Investigations are ongoing.
