Met Éireann has issued back-to-back rain warnings, warning of heavy downpours, poor visibility, and potential flooding
Status yellow warning issued for Cork ahead of washout weekend

The warning comes into effect at 5pm and is set to lapse at midnight on Friday.

Two status yellow rain warnings are set to bring wet weather to many parts of the country on Friday and Saturday.

The first warning covers, Waterford, Wicklow, Wexford, Kilkenny, and Carlow on Friday.

The warning takes effect at 2pm and ends at midnight.

The second warning affects Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Tipperary, and Waterford. It begins at midnight on Saturday and remains in place for 24 hours.

Met Éireann warns of poor visibility, difficult travel conditions, and localised flooding while the warnings are active.

Tonight, conditions will stay mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain across Munster, Leinster, and east Ulster. The southeast is expected to see the heaviest downpours. Temperatures will range from 11°C to 16°C.

On Friday morning, rain, drizzle, mist, and fog will mostly clear eastwards, but cloud and showers will linger in the south and southeast.

Highest temperatures on Friday will range from 15C to 19C.

The forecaster says the weekend brings “the potential for unsettled, wet, and possibly windy conditions, especially in the south and east," with the possibility of wider impacts.

Low pressure to the south of Ireland is likely “to send up some rain from the south on Friday night,” though uncertainty remains about how widespread it will become.

Munster and Leinster are likely to see heavier rainfall. Temperatures on Friday night will be cooler, between 9C and 14C.

The area of low pressure will, Met Éireann says, “continue to dominate our weather on Saturday,” with further heavy spells of rain, particularly in the south and east. Highest temperatures on Saturday will range from 12C to 17C.

Unsettled conditions will persist into Saturday night, with more wet and windy weather expected, especially in the east. These conditions may spread further overnight. Temperatures will fall to 6C to 10C.

Sunday is likely to start wet and blustery in the east, though rain should clear eastwards through the morning.

Sunday will then be cool and breezy with sunny spells and scattered showers. Daytime temperatures will range from 11C to 14C, with added wind chill from a fresh and gusty northerly wind, strongest along coasts.
