The Asian hornet poses a serious threat to native pollinators and biodiversity.

The Irish Beekeepers Association has said the removal of an Asian hornet’s nest in Cork was crucial to prevent the release of future queens which would have established new nests next spring.

The discovery was made when a photograph was submitted to the National Biodiversity Data Centre (NBDC) on July 31, captured in a Cork City beer garden.
