Gas Networks Ireland has detected more than 2,900 cases of meter tampering across the country since 2013.

Tampering with a gas meter puts lives at risk, Gas Networks Ireland has warned following a successful prosecution in Cork.

The company, which operates and maintains Ireland’s €3bn, 14,725km national gas network, issued the warning after a person received a three-month suspended sentence for unlawfully tampering with a gas meter at a property in a housing estate in the Mahon area.
