An Post has announced that the Crosshaven post office will close on Friday, May 30.
They say that they "regret" the closure of the post office, but that there were issues replacing the postmaster.
From May 30, post office services will be provided at Carrigaline Post Office, which is situated in the SuperValu Shopping Centre there.
Explaining the decision, a spokesperson said: "The move was prompted by the resignation of the outgoing Postmaster.
"An Post advertised the vacant contract and sought expressions of interest from anyone willing to provide post office service to Crosshaven but to no avail.
"An Post regrets the close of the post office and apologises to customers for any hardship or inconvenience this may cause. We will work hard to ensure a smooth transition to Carrigaline."
The announcement came hours after the Irish Postmasters Union renewed calls for Government action, saying it was essential to prevent post offices from closing—both by plugging funding gaps and by expanding the services they can provide to customers.
Irish Postmasters Union General Secretary Sandra Tormey said that post offices were essential for social cohesion, but postmasters were being stretched by rising costs.
There was cross-party support for postmasters at a meeting on Wednesday, including Sinn Féin’s Matt Carthy, Fianna Fáil’s Pat the Cope Gallagher, and Independent Ireland’s Michael Collins.
