Met Éireann have issued a status yellow weather warning for Cork and Kerry ahead of an "unsettled" end to Easter week.

The warning, which kicks in on Thursday at 11pm and runs until 2pm on Friday, is for rain.

The warning reads: "Spells of rain, heavy at times" with possible localised flooding.

It comes as people woke up to snow in parts of Ireland on Wednesday morning.

Metrological commentator Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather reported sightings of snow in Wicklow and Wexford.

Elsewhere, Met Éireann has said Wednesday night will see any remaining rain clear to the northeast, leaving dry conditions and long clear spells.

A few showers will develop in Atlantic coastal counties and it will be cold, with temperatures falling to lows of -1C.

Thursday will begin dry but turn cloudier through the morning with "widespread and prolonged showers developing by afternoon".

Rain will move into the southwest in the evening, Met Éireann said. Temperatures will range from highs of 13C during the day to lows of 4C at night.

The weather will be "unsettled to end the week" with some heavy rain on Friday. However, it will gradually become dry through the weekend "with current indications suggesting a bright day on Easter Sunday".

Friday night will see the outbreaks of rain "gradually ease and become patchy overnight" leaving a cloudy start to Saturday "with scattered patches of rain and drizzle".

It will be milder, with overnight temperature lows of 5C to 9C forecast.

It will gradually brighten up through the day on Saturday with any lingering rain slowly clearing to the south, with temperatures reaching highs of 15C.

Met Éireann said there will be "a drier and brighter day on Sunday with spells of sunshine, especially across the east of the country".

There is the chance of a few showers while temperatures will hit highs of 16C.
