HSE issues tender for rebuilding of controversial East Cork mental health facility

The bill to replace Owenacurrra, including the purchase of two three-bed facilities in the locality, is set to total at least €17.8m.

The HSE has launched a public tender for the rebuilding of a Co Cork residential mental health facility — one month after construction was initially meant to have been completed.

The HSE is looking for a private contractor to demolish the existing Owenacurra mental health unit in Midleton — which has lain vacant for the past 19 months — and build a new 10-bed replacement.
