A 21-year-old Munster Technological University (MTU) student who accidentally fell from an upper storey of student accommodation in Cork city in the early hours of last Thursday has died.

The young man, who is from East Cork, fell from the Eden Hall student accommodation on Model Farm Road at around 4am last Thursday. His friends called the emergency services with paramedics treating the young man at the scene.

He was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where his condition was described as critical. His family maintained a bedside vigil in hospital. The death is being treated as a tragic accident and there is no suggestion of foul play. The coroner has been notified and an inquest will take place at a later date.

It is understood the young man fell from the fourth floor. Several units of the Cork City Fire Brigade, HSE paramedics and the gardaí attended at the scene. The young man played for an under 21 hurling team last year and comes from a very well liked and respected family.
