A woman, aged in her 30s, was taken to University Hospital Limerick after being assaulted in Limerick city centre.
The incident occurred on Saturday, February 8, on Ellen Street, at approximately 1am.
The woman was taken to the hospital by a relative after suffering a head injury.
Gardaí confirmed an investigation is ongoing.
Crime prevention officer, Michelle O’Halloran, said the woman was walking alone when she was approached by two men and a woman who were unknown to her.
"One of the males became verbally abusive towards her. An altercation followed, which resulted in the female being hit in the head, and punched in the mouth by one of the males knocking her to the ground. This male was described as wearing a denim jacket with a cream woolly collar and denim jeans," explained Ms O'Halloran.
"He then ran away in the direction of the Milk Market. The injured female contacted a relative who picked her up from the scene and took her to UHL where she received treatment for an injury to her head," she added.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have been in the Ellen Street area in Limerick city to contact Gardai at Henry Street on 061 212400, if they have any information in relation to this assault.
