Body of man discovered following alleged assault involving two sex workers in Limerick

Gardaí investigating allegations of assault involving two women believed to be working in the sex industry in Limerick City say the main suspect in the case is now dead.

The two women, who were reportedly working in the sex industry in the city, were allegedly held against their will and assaulted at a premises near the Dock Road in the early hours of Monday morning.
It has been reported one of the women raised the alarm after managing to escape the premises, running to a nearby shop to alert gardaí.
Gardaí say they are now following "a definite line of inquiry" and there is "no ongoing risk to public safety".
In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: "An Garda Síochána is investigating allegations of assault involving two female injured parties that occurred in Limerick city over the early hours of Monday 20 January 2025.
"An Garda Síochána is following a definite line of inquiry on this investigation and there is no ongoing risk to public safety.
"The sole person of interest in this investigation is deceased.
"Separately, An Garda Síochána is investigating the circumstances of the discovery of a body of a male in a wooded area in Co Limerick."
Commenting on the incident, Ruhama chief executive Barbara Condon said: "Ruhama is horrified and deeply concerned by the news of the violent attack on two women in Limerick and we hope the women concerned are accessing all the necessary supports.
"We are very worried about the increase in the level of violence against women involved in the sex trade being reported in recent years and it is vital that victims impacted by prostitution and commercial sexual exploitation receive adequate support and that justice is pursued to prosecute violent perpetrators.
