Replacement bus services will be in operation for rail services impacted by upcoming evening and weekend works across Cork's rail network, Iarnród Éireann has said.

Construction of a new platform at Kent Station, Platform 6, will continue over the coming weeks, as will advance construction of a new track between Glounthaune and Midleton.

Work has been ongoing on Platform 6 since October 2023. It is scheduled to be completed and to enter operation in March.

Work on the second line to Midleton has also been ongoing for a number of months, as has work to upgrade signaling across the county's entire rail network.

To facilitate these works, all of which form part of the new Cork Area Commuter Rail Programme, Iarnród Éireann is advising passengers that some evening and night-time services will be impacted over the coming weeks. On the weekend of February 15-16, there will also be closures across all three Cork rail lines.

Details of the works are as follows:

  • Until December 10, 2025, works on the new Glounthaune to Midleton track will see services on this route from 8pm on Mondays and Wednesdays impacted. However, Bank Holiday Monday services will not be impacted.
  • From, January 27-29, February 4-5, and February 10-12, post-8pm services between Cork and Cobh/Midleton will be impacted by cuttings and embankments works.
  • To facilitate similar works on February 15 and 16, services between Cork and Cobh/Midleton will not be operational.
  • Iarnród Éireann also says that Dublin to Cork, Tralee to Cork, and Cork to Mallow services will also be suspended on February 16 to allow for new platform and track works.

Iarnród Éireann apologised for any inconvenience caused by its upcoming works and said bus services will be in operation for services impacted.

More information on the planned construction works and changes to rail services can found on Iarnród Éireann's website.
