'Robby has arrived back home': Young Clare man, 21, repatriated after tragic death in Thailand
The late Robby Kinlan: His remains were repatriated to Ireland on Monday.
Funeral details have been announced for a young Clare man who died in Thailand.
Robby (Robert) Kinlan, of Caherush, died unexpectedly on January 9 at the age of 21. He was found dead in his hotel bed, in Ko Tao, an island on the western shore of the Gulf of Thailand.
A fundraiser had been set up by his friends at Dive Academy in Inishmore to bring his remains home.
Funeral prayers will take place in Star of the Sea Church, Quilty, this Wednesday at 4.30pm and he will be reposing until 7pm.
His cremation service will be in Shannon Crematorium this Thursday at 3pm.
The young man had recently completed an advanced free diving course in Ko Tao and was backpacking in Thailand.
The fundraiser set up to bring Robby's remains home raised âŹ47,782.
In an update shared on the fundraising page, his friends said he was repatriated to Ireland on Monday.
"Robby has arrived back home to Ireland today. His family is deeply grateful for your support during this incredibly difficult time," they wrote.
"As we approach the final moments of this journey, we would like to let you know that the fundraiser will officially close on Thursday, 23rd January. Your generosity has been a great comfort to the family, and we are sincerely grateful for your support," they added.
His mother, Tracy King, posted a tribute on social media, alongside pictures of the temple in which her sonâs remains were resting before the repatriation.Â
âRIP to my precious son Robby. He is resting in this beautiful Temple in Koh Tao, Thailand, before his removal back to Ireland,â she wrote on Facebook.
