Bomb threat at Dundalk courthouse deemed to be a hoax

The public is being urged to avoid the Market Square area in the town.

A bomb threat made to Dundalk courthouse which saw the building evacuated and searched on Tuesday has been declared “a hoax” by gardaí.

A security alert was raised this morning by a staff member on Magnet Street in Dundalk, Co Louth, as the court was sitting.

Staff and the public were asked to leave the building so that it could be searched.

There was heavy traffic in the area while patrol cars and emergency services cordoned off the area.

A massive search of the courthouse began, however, gardaí are now satisfied that the threat was a hoax.

A spokesman said: “Gardaí were made aware of a security alert at a premises at Crowe Street, Dundalk, Co Louth earlier this morning, Tuesday, 14 January 2025.

“Following further enquiries, An Garda Síochána is satisfied that the alert has been deemed to be a hoax and the area was declared safe. Investigations ongoing.”
