Pedestrian in his 70s killed after being hit by a car in Abbeyfeale

Gardaí and emergency services responded, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian in his 70s was fatally struck by a car in Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick, on Sunday night.

The incident occurred on New Street shortly after 9.00pm. 

Gardaí and emergency services responded, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The area has been cordoned off for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, with local diversions in place. 

An autopsy will be arranged, and a report is to be sent to the local coroner.

Gardaí are urging anyone who witnessed the collision or has video footage, including dash-cam recordings from the area, to contact Newcastlewest Garda Station at 069 20650 or the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111.
