A woman assaulted in Cork city was still critically ill on Monday night as a charity volunteer was hailed a hero for saving her.

The 36-year-old woman from Cork city is understood to have been assaulted by a number of people on St Patrick’s Street at around 8pm on Sunday night. The incident occurred close to a soup run organised by Kindness Krew volunteers outside the former Savoy cinema and the woman is known to homeless services in the city.
