Gardaí carrying out a road safety operation at a Mandatory Intoxicating Testing Checkpoint in the Killarney area stopped a vehicle at around 1.30am. 

Ecstasy tablets, suspected cannabis, and €47,000 in cash were seized during a gardaí while conducting a standard checkpoint in Kerry on Wednesday morning. 

Gardaí were carrying out a Mandatory Intoxicating Testing Checkpoint at 1.30am when they stopped a vehicle in the Killarney area.

Following an inspection of the vehicle, a large quantity of €50 bank notes, suspected cannabis and ecstasy tablets were found. 

Gardaí say the total amount of cash found was €47,000 and that the drugs are now subject to analysis.

The cash remains at Killarney Garda Station and is pending transport to the Property and Evidence Management System (PEMS).

"An investigation into the incident is now underway," a garda spokesperson said.
