Backers of a runway extension for Waterford Airport which would allow for the first scheduled commercial passenger services since 2016 have been dealt a blow after the Government said there are "weaknesses" in its business case.
Junior Transport Minister James Lawless said he is "a big supporter" of regional airports but again insisted any chance of investment to let Waterford Airport resume commercial scheduled service is contingent on proof there would be demand.
