Schools across Cork made a significant environmental impact by preventing thousands of used batteries from entering landfills during the last academic year. 

Sixty schools participated in WEEE Ireland’s Schools Battery Recycling Competition, collecting the equivalent of 141,350 used AA batteries for recycling. Nationwide, students from primary and secondary schools helped collect 1.5 million used AA batteries — the combined weight of nearly four school buses.
