Man, 30s, arrested after firearm and ammo seized in Mallow

A man in his 30s has been arrested after a firearm was seized in Mallow, Co Cork in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Gardaí operating a checkpoint stopped a vehicle at approximately 1.10am, where they discovered the firearm and ammunition.

A man was arrested at the scene. He is currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939 at a Garda Station in the Cork Division.

The operation involved the Mallow Detective Unit, Mallow Drugs Unit and Mallow Roads Policing Unit.

The seized items will be forwarded to The Garda Ballistics Unit for further analysis, a Garda spokesperson said.
