Gardaí have arrested a man in his 50s after a suspected assault in Cobh on Tuesday evening.

In a statement, gardaí said they were alerted to an incident in which a man was assaulted outside a retail premises in Carrignafoy.

The man injured in the incident was transported by ambulance for further assessment.

Gardaí said another man was subsequently arrested and is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a garda station in Cork.

Images shared on social media appear to show a large garda presence at the scene earlier this evening.
