The brother of former finance minister Michael McGrath plans to run in the next general election in a bid to retain his brother’s seat.

Carrigaline-based Seamus McGrath, 49, the leader of the Fianna Fáil group on Cork County Council, and who got the highest first-preference vote of any candidate in the recent local elections, confirmed on Friday that he plans to seek his party’s nomination to run in Cork South Central.
