Search resumes for missing climber last seen on Kerry's Mount Brandon one week ago

Sebastian Jaworski was last seen at the summit of Mount Brandon one week ago.

The Irish Coast Guard, gardaí, and members Kerry Mountain Rescue Team have resumed the searches for a missing mountain climber.

46-year-old Sebastian Jaworski, who is understood to be from Poland, has been missing since last Sunday, June 23.

He was last seen on the summit of Mount Brandon that afternoon. At that time, it’s believed he was wearing shorts with a dark top and was carrying a large rucksack.

The alarm was raised on Monday when Mr Jaworski, an experienced mountain climber, did not show up for work. 

On Tuesday, June 25, gardaí and members of Kerry Mountain Rescue Team launched a search operation, with assistance from SARDA, the Dingle Coast Guard, and Coast Guard Helicopter R115.

Mr Jaworski's car was located in Faha car park close to Mount Brandon on Tuesday.

“The team is seeking information from anyone who may have seen this man at any stage on the hill or around the general Brandon area from Sunday afternoon onwards,” Kerry Mountain Rescue wrote in a post on Facebook.

"Extensive ground and air searches have been carried out since the alarm was raised on Tuesday, but unfortunately the casualty has yet to be located."

Poor weather in the area over the past few days has severely impacted visibility, making search conditions challenging. 

As such, the search, which involved around 50 members of Kerry Mountain Rescue, was called off on Saturday evening. It subsequently resumed on Sunday afternoon. 

In a statement, the Coast Guard's Marine Rescue Co-ordination Sub-centre in Valentia confirmed that rescue helicopters 115, based in Shannon, and R117, based in Waterford, as well as Coast Guard Units from Dingle, Glenderry and Iveragh had been mobilised to assist with the search operation.
