Thousands of school children are set to take part in the Cork Primary School Sports on Thursday, described by organisers as one of Europe’s largest one-day children’s athletics meet, and which is celebrating its centenary this year.

Some 6,000 young athletes from 300 primary schools around the city and county will compete in races at the Munster Technological University’s (MTU) Bishopstown campus.
