There will be further rain in Cork on Monday as it is one of six counties under rain warnings.

The status yellow rainfall warning for Cork will see more rainfall in the county with the alert in place until 7pm on Monday.

Met Éireann has warned that the potential impacts include flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions.

The warning follows a wet and windy weekend as Storm Kathleen tracked across the country, which saw gusts of 111km/h recorded at Sherkin Island in Co Cork.

It comes as a second status yellow rain warning is in place for Waterford, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford and Wicklow.

Met Éireann has said there will be heavy rain "at times" in these counties and again the impacts will include flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions.

The warning is in place until midnight on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, rain will persist for much of the country on Monday. The day started with rain and drizzle which will continue into the early afternoon. However, it will stay largely dry in some western coastal counties with a few showers expected.

The rain should clear early on Monday night into the Irish Sea from the east coast with clear spells and scattered showers expected elsewhere in the country.

Tuesday should see further showers but stay mostly dry with some sunny spells.

However, Met Éireann has said that Tuesday night will see rain and drizzle develop in the southwest before extending to most areas overnight.

Wednesday should stay dull, misty and wet, with further outbreaks of rain or drizzle continuing through the day staying dull, misty and wet.

It should then remain cloudy on Wednesday night with rain and drizzle clearing into scattered showers.

Thursday then should stay dry for much of the day with sunny spells and "just a few showers" however, rain should move into the west by evening and continue through the night.

Current indications for Friday show further outbreaks of rain, heaviest in the northwest.
