Complaints about discolouration of the city’s domestic water supply surged within weeks of the commissioning of the new water treatment plant on the Lee Road in July 2022, and the problems have continued since.

Uisce Éireann officials will be grilled next week about why hundreds of homes in Cork City are still being supplied with dirty brown water 18 months after the opening of a new €40m water treatment plant.

The utility has accepted an invitation to attend a meeting of the city council’s environment, water and amenity strategic policy committee next week, called to discuss councillors’ concerns about the ongoing problems.
