Cork County Council is to be asked to provide 20 acres of land it owns in Midleton for the development of a state-of-the-art, multimillion-euro track and field athletics facility similar to the successful Limerick Regional Athletics Hub.

A number of groups, including Athletics Ireland, regional development organisation Secad, and the Irish Wheelchair Association have given backing to the proposal delivered to the council by Cork East Athletics Sporting Committee (CEASC).
